Serving those in need

STRAT is a non-profit organization dedicated to collecting monetary donations and distributing them to those in need throughout Chicago. We have a network of inner-city churches and organizations who screen the needs within their communities and submit requests for help.

We usually supply small, one-time gifts ($500 or less) to assist with urgent needs such as housing, utilities, transportation, food, health and funerals. We also support summer youth programs that provide structure, safety and enrichment for younger children while offering job skills for teenagers.

Comprising a very lean organization, board members handle most of the operations, which primarily are writing fundraising letters, stuffing and stamping envelopes, visiting partner churches and organizations. Our only expenses come from stationary. printing, postage, banking and meeting regulatory obligations.

In a city with more than three million residents, needs abound. STRAT seeks to bridge the gap between those of us who have and those who do not have. We do that by working with our inner-city partners, and that partnership brings hope as they offer 'a cup of cold water' in Jesus' name.
